The beautiful pearl of the Mediterranean has been declared a historical-artistic monument of particular value in 1984, while in 1998 it became a natural reserve run initially by the WWF and recently by the CUTGANA. The island hosts rare animal and vegetable species, a characteristic is the presence of the red colored stomach lizard. Haven of the royal seagull, martin fisher, pilgrim falcon and major swift. Numerous are endemic essence, carnations, rupicolas and white cabbage. Very rich are themarine environments around the rocky sea bottoms of the island.
