THE PUBBLIC GARDENS OF TAORMINA

The colonna park has been the public garden of Taormina since 1923, initially it belonged to Dott. Salvatore Cacciola which he inherited from his wife Florence Trevely . Being a lover of nature and all that is beautiful, she dedicated herself to the planning and creation of a garden extended on a steep slope below the city walls. This area hosts autochthonous, carob, olive, and almond trees, besides many exotic plants such as Aucharias, Callinadras, and Bahuinias. The gardens besides having classical statues and enormous ceramic jars it was enhanced by ingenious structures called “beehives” with intermediate structures between the gazebo and the oriental pagoda, also by so called “cromlechs”, metal rock monuments arranged in a circle which form a religious paddock , and by “dolmes” similar to funeral construction of the III millennium a.c
